Notes On A Scorecard

TCU director of intercollegiate athletics Chris Del Conte discusses the hot topics around the Horned Frogs.

UPCOMING EVENTS

We hope to see you tomorrow and Friday night from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. for our Football Parking Pass Pick-Up Parties in the Dee J. Kelly Alumni and Visitors Center.

FROGS FOR THE CURE

Amidst all the football schedule changes we announced last week, please note that our annual Frogs for the Cure game is now the BYU contest on Friday, Oct. 28, at Cowboys Stadium. Frogs for the Cure has become a very important and popular annual tradition for us.

TCU NIGHT AT THE BALLPARK

Speaking of Frogs for the Cure, our good friends with the Texas Rangers will host "TCU Frogs for the Cure Night" at the Friday, Aug. 26, 7 p.m. game versus the Los Angeles Angels.
It should also be a big game that night in the battle for the American League West title. Discounted ticket prices are available for TCU students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends. Baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle, SuperFrog and TCU cheerleaders will be on hand. Please buy and wear the 2011 "We Fight Back" Frogs for the Cure t-shirt. Each purchase will see $3 donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Shirts are available for purchase at the TCU bookstore or online at www.tcu.bkstore.com. Through the years, Frogs for the Cure has raised more than $125,000 for breast cancer research. For more information, please visit www.frogsforthecure.tcu.edu.

SUMMER READING

If you're a season-ticket holder or Frog Club member and you haven't received our 2010-11 Athletics Annual Report in your mailbox yet, it should be there any day now. We hope you enjoy the recap of the past year for us.

GREAT RECOGNITION

It was nice to see Yahoo! Sports and Rivals.com recognize our football coaches by ranking them as the third-best staff in the nation. Of course, we're biased and consider them No. 1, but it's still tremendous exposure for Gary Patterson and his crew on the incredible job they're doing with the young men in our football program.

HEAT CHECK

With our football and soccer teams in the midst of preseason camp, we are most appreciative of the efforts of our sports medicine and strength and conditioning staffs in preparing and taking care of our student-athletes as they practice and train amidst our record-breaking heat.

MEET THE FROGS

Please don't forget to mark your calendar for Saturday, Aug. 20, for our annual Meet The Frogs. This year's event will be a two-hour autograph session from 12 to 2 p.m. in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. Because of the stadium construction, we won't be able to have the open practice and clinic that many of you have enjoyed in past years.

EXCITING TIMES

Today is one of the many great days on a college campus as it's Move In Day for the freshmen who comprise TCU's Class of 2015. There's nothing like students arriving on a college campus for the start of another academic year.

THANK YOU

We extend our incredible gratitude and best wishes to our former director of compliance John Cunningham. His last day with us was yesterday. Working under our associate athletics director for compliance and "Top Cop" Andrea Nordmann, John did an incredible job and was a very valued member of our department. He's now headed to Boise State as the Broncos' executive director of NCAA compliance. This is a great opportunity for John, a TCU graduate, as he'll now be able to run his own shop. We look forward to seeing him when we head to Boise for our football game in November. We hope he'll manage to find some semblance of purple to sneak into his wardrobe that day.

COMPLIANCE CORNER

During a prospect's visit to campus (official or unofficial), he/she may participate in physical workouts or other recreational activities, provided the activities are not organized or observed by members of the athletics department coaching staff and are not designed to test the athletics abilities of the prospect. Recently, the NCAA issued an interpretation which states that during an official or unofficial visit, a prospect may participate in recreational activities in a facility that is not open to the general public (e.g., campus recreation center, golf course, swimming pool), provided the activities are not organized or observed by members of the athletics department coaching staff (including strength and conditioning coaches) and are not designed to test the athletics abilities of the prospect.
