GoFrogs: TCU defeats Tarleton State in first round of CUSA Championships
YOUNGSVILLE, La. – No. 6 TCU (26-7) notched their first win in the CUSA Championships against Tarleton State (3-0) on Thursday afternoon at Sugar Beach. The Horned Frogs' sweep of the Texans improved their record against other teams in the Lone Star State to 40-0.
QUICK HITS AGAINST TARLETON STATE
• Sutton MacTavish and Ana Vergara locked in the first point from the No. 2 position: 21-11, 21-12.
• The win over the Texans marked the duo's first win together this season.
• Sutton MacTavish secured her 99th career win while Vergara now has 77 career wins.
• Olivia Clines and Anete Namike scored the second point for the Frogs from the No. 5 spot: 21-11, 21-10.
• This was the first win and showing for the pairing.
• From court three, Tara Patton and Morgan Williams clinched the match for the Horned Frogs: 21-8, 21-9.
• The two improved their record together to 9-3 on the season. From the No. 3 position, Patton and Williams hold a record of 6-3.
• Hamlett/Khmil and Glagau/Polk's matches were left unfinished after the third point scored by TCU. Both Frog pairings had the advantage, with Hamlett/Khmil winning their first set 21-15 and Glagau/Polk winning 21-12.
• This was TCU's first matchup against Tarleton in program history. The Horned Frogs earned the early lead in the all-time series.
• TCU is now 1-0 in all-time CUSA Championship play.
Up Next
TCU will face two opponents tomorrow in the second round of the championships. The Horned Frogs will go head-to-head with Tulane at 10 a.m. Depending on the outcome of the match TCU could play at 1:00 p.m. in the Contenders Bracket or 2:30 p.m. in the Winners Bracket.
Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
