GoFrogs: TCU Drops 2-1 Decision at USC

LOS ANGELES – TCU dropped a 2-1 decision at USC on Friday night in its opening game of the Southern California College Baseball Classic. The Horned Frogs had the tying run on base in five of the final six innings. Haylen Green tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings for TCU.

The Rundown
USC opened the scoring in the first inning as it took advantage of a lead-off double from Rhylan Thomas. He scored on a Jamal O'Guinn one-out single to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead.

Gene Wood leveled the game at one with a lead-off home run in the second inning.

The Trojans regained the lead, 2-1, in the third on a two-out single off the bat of O'Guinn.

TCU had chances to tie the game with a runner in scoring position in the fifth and sixth innings. Tommy Sacco doubled with two outs in the fifth but was stranded. Zach Humphreys doubled with two outs and made it to third on a passed ball, but was left on base.

The Frogs tried to mount a ninth-inning rally, once again getting the tying run to third base with two outs, but a strikeout ended the game.

Johnny Ray (1-1) took the loss after allowing two runs on six hits in 2 2/3 innings. Green fanned seven in his 5 1/3 innings of work.

Stat of the Game:
5.1 – Haylen Green tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. He allowed just five base runners in his time on the mound.

Notes:
• Three of TCU's five hits in the game went for extra bases.
Gene Wood hit his fourth home run of the season and the fifth of his career.
Tommy Sacco has reached safely in 11 straight contests.
Zach Humphreys collected his third multi-hit game of the season and the 28th of his career.
Sam Thompson has reached safely in six straight games.

Next Up:
With the loss, TCU drops to 10-3 on the season. The Horned Frogs will take on UCLA on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. (CST). Charles King will get the start for the TCU.
