GoFrogs: Bane Named First Team All-Big 12

FORT WORTH – TCU senior guard Desmond Bane was named All-Big 12 First Team by the Big 12 coaches Sunday.

Bane became the first TCU player to earn first team honors. He was named to the second team a year ago and was named to the preseason first team in October.

The Richmond, Ind., native ranked second in the conference with a scoring average of 16.6 points per game. He ranked sixth in assists (3.9) and 10th in rebounding (6.3) to become the only player that ranked in the top 10 in the Big 12 in points, rebounds and assists.

Bane was the league's best 3-point shooter with an accuracy of 44.1 percent and 2.9 made 3-pointers per game, both tops in the Big 12. He scored 20 or more points 12 times, the most in the conference, and was one of eight Big 12 players to score 30 or more points in a game this season.

Bane, who was the Big 12 Player of the Week on March 2, ranks third all-time at TCU with 1,768 points, fourth with 652 field goals and first with 247 3-pointers made.

Bane was joined on the first team by Jared Butler (Baylor), Kristian Doolittle (Oklahoma), Devon Dotson (Kansas) and player of the year Udoka Azubuike (Kansas).

The Frogs are the No. 7 seed in next week's Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship and will play No. 10 seed Kansas State on Wednesday at 8 p.m. on ESPNU.
