FWST: West Virginia holds off TCU women's late rally to keep Horned Frogs winless in Big 12
The TCU women's basketball team nearly closed an eight-point deficit in the final six minutes against West Virginia, but the Mountaineers were able to hold on for a 58-50 win over the Horned Frogs on Tuesday in Morgantown, W.Va.
Trailing 48-40, freshman Zahna Medley ended an 8-0 West Virginia run with a layup, and a 3-pointer by freshman Kamy Cole at the 3:57 mark put the Frogs behind 50-46. Junior Latricia Lovings then hit two free throws to help TCU (7-9, 0-5 Big 12) pull within two, but the Frogs wouldn't get any closer as the Mountaineers (11-5, 3-2) went on a 6-0 run to put the game out of reach.
Freshman Veja Hamilton led TCU with a career-high 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting, and Cole and Medley both chipped in 10 points apiece. Lovings added eight points, including going 4 of 5 from the free-throw line, to go with five blocks and 13 rebounds. ...
