Kyle Winkler would be the ace for most teams around the country.
On Friday night in front of the second-largest crowd in Lupton Stadium history, he gave another brilliant example of why that's true.
Winkler, pitching on Friday for Matt Purke who is being held until Sunday because of a blister on his throwing hand, held Cal State Fullerton to six singles and one unearned run as No. 4 TCU won Game 1 of the weekend series with the 12th-ranked Titans, 4-1, before a crowd of 5,566.
Facing a Fullerton lineup stacked with eight left-handed hitters, the right-handed Winkler (2-0) relied on his fastball to get ahead in the count. ...
