TCU is working on a extension with women’s basketball coach Mark Campbell, athletic director Mike Buddie told reporters on Monday.

Since Buddie took over in January, it’s been a top priority to get an extension done with Campbell who has led the Horned Frogs to the best season in program history.

After a 8-23 finish in the 2022 season, the Horned Frogs parted ways with Raegan Pebly and TCU signed Campbell to a contract on March 21, 2023.

Glad to see AD Buddie making this a priority.

I've been watching the WBB coaching openings to assess risk of losing HCMC. Thankfully, I don't see too much risk. Arkansas and Auburn are good SEC openings, along with Mizzou, but not sure any of those would be a great fit for a coach whose relationships are mostly on the West Coast.

Arizona State is open, but that's now a horizontal move with a rebuild, and the incoming talent from HCMC's first TCU recruiting class is promising.

Wisconsin looks like the only Big Ten opening.

If Campbell were going to go elsewhere, I think it would be to one of the six Power 4 schools on the West Coast, or to a legacy program following a retirement. Stanford would have doubly fit that profile last year, but the Cardinal had longtime "associate head coach" Kate Paye lined up for that job. Stanford might be rethinking that strategy--Cardinal went 16-13 this season and missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 36 years--but they can't bail on Paye after one season. All the other Power 4 schools out west made the tournament.

(Also chuckling at the part of the article where former Army AD Buddie makes a weapons analogy related to resources. Give him a bazooka, Mike!)
