TCU reveals a new vision to compete as a ‘best-in-class’ national player. Here’s the plan.

After months of planning with feedback from more than 10,000 community members, TCU unveiled Tuesday a new strategic plan that charts the Fort Worth university’s course for the next decade.

The plan touches on every aspect of the university, from what the campus will look like in the coming years, to how TCU intends to extend its influence well beyond University Drive. Made up of 44 initiatives and goals, the bulk of the plan falls under its four “core pillars” — increasing community engagement, maintaining growth, strengthening athletics and improving research.

These initiatives may be largely an effort to obtain an invitation to the Big 10, as their conference officials have been guiding TCU as to what will be needed for inclusion or consideration. Even if not, why not shoot for the top?

I watched TCU languish for many years while it was run by clergy who allowed the athletic department to field teams that embarrassingly lost to lower division opponents in football and men's basketball without being embarrassed enough to take action.

The comeback of the last 30 years has been phenomenal! I'm sure that if Louden and Lowe were still with us, they would be helping TCU push itself upwards, not sideways as occurred for several decades.

TCU and Dean Pullin are insane..they do not need to hire 550 “staff” members who do not teach…administration bloat

Pullin said the university will likely hire about 500 new faculty and 550 staff members over the next decade, if enrollment grows as planned.
How do you know? Have you ever run a University? Increasing the enrollment by 5000 and obtaining R1 status is going to require more faculty and support staff.

I graduated not too long ago…there are now ~12 extra highly paid “Vice Chancellors” or equivalent reporting to the Chancellor in the senior admin team…most of which have BS titles and roles…

There were 5 when I was there. Maybe less.

TCU already has a problem with Administrative Bloat...

Not all of the 550 new staff will be administrative bloat, doing b.s. work. Many may very well be doing administrative stuff demanded by governments (no matter who is in office), and donors (particularly heavily audited ones). And many may be doing non-academic work that academics need done (and have the bargaining power to get).

It might not look like it, but I share your unhappiness with TCU's cash flow being sucked up by non-productive spending. I am aware, however, that some spending that might be or seem to be unrelated to TCU's academic mission is desirable or even required.

The specific endowment (that I think I remember learning about) for groundskeeping comes to mind.

Rumors are that UNC, NCST, Clemson, FSU to the SEC to make 20 teams.

Big 10 will take ND and Miami.

I heard the rumor about UNC, but not those other schools.

But again, this is all a moot point if they can’t get the buyout lowered.

Let’s say that does happen, that leaves the Big 12 with the potential to grab 4 of: Duke, Louisville, VT, Syracuse, Virginia, Georgia Tech, and Pitt.

You don't hire Bill Belichick and have MJ as your brand unless you are trying to position yourself for another conference. The difference between $30 million and $50 million per year justifies everything you are doing.

The non-Power 2 schools!
