Four things to know about TCU’s next opponent, the Long Island Sharks

Steven Johnson

TCU returns to the friendly confines of Amon G. Carter Stadium after a successful road trip to Stanford to face Long Island University on Saturday.

While no opponent should be overlooked, the reality is this game presents a good opportunity for the Horned Frogs to clean up some of the issues that occurred during the 34-27 win over the Cardinal.

The Horned Frogs fumbled three times and had 100 penalty yards in a promising, but sloppy win. With the Sharks coming into town, TCU should aim for playing a clean game in preparation for the Big 12 opener next week vs. Central Florida.

In 2022, Mississippi State University canceled its scheduled 2024 football game against TCU. This left TCU with an open date for that season, forcing them to seek a replacement opponent. The decision was likely driven by MSU's need to adjust its schedule following changes in the Southeastern Conference, as the league expanded to include additional teams.

As for penalties, it appears that no significant financial penalties were imposed on either side. Both schools seem to have reached a mutual understanding to avoid any legal or financial dispute.

LIU was acceptable to TCU as a replacement opponent for the 2024 open date primarily because they were available, and the game fit TCU's scheduling needs. Additionally, the quick agreement allowed TCU to fill the gap left by Mississippi State’s cancellation without further disrupting their schedule.

The financial details for LIU's playing TCU haven't been publicly disclosed, at least nowhere that I can track down. However, it's common for FCS teams like LIU to receive a payout from the host school, usually ranging from $400,000 to $1 million for such games. The host school, in this case, TCU, is typically responsible for funding this payment as part of their non-conference game agreements.

That is an awfully concise, accurate, enlightening post and I personally wanna thank you for it.....but it has no place on a message board.

Now back to ppl saying our OL sucks after 457 yards of offense and a QB whose butt only touched the ground one time all night
