In a lot of ways they aren't allowed to coach anymore. You're always one ass-chewing away from losing a kid, and who of us who ever played sports didn't get a well-deserved and well intentioned ass-chewing at one time or another that we really needed (but didn't see it that way at the time).

I grew up in the old school era. Always found it a 2 way street. Times when you deserved it, and times you also got yelled at by some braindead moron who couldn't do anything else with his life but coach and was completely wrong about what he was yelling at you for. Plus, those coaches that just blanketly yelled at you for everything eventually got tuned out because after awhile it just became white noise.

Payola for college football players has fairly quietly existed since the very early days of the game. NIL just put it into the public spotlight and amped it up considerably. Now, people I know are now entering the fray and dishing out dough. Our justice system has ruled on this and it is now part of the landscape.

It's the immediate transfer portal that can be and needs to be addressed.

Yup, Title IX won't allow schools to favor a men's sport like that over women's sports. So, that's not going to happen unless they also employ ALL athletes and the vast majority of schools can't afford to do that. The NIL ruling killed college football, we'll just need to learn to play/pay better within the new system.
A National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) regional official has ruled that Dartmouth basketball players are school employees. The whole team is petitioning to join the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). We might move beyond so-called NIL fairly quickly.

Sounds like a good labor lawyer needs to look at this. Was a job offered? Was salary discussed and agreed to. Hours set, expectations outlined, vacation offered…

  • Employment is a paid work agreement between an employer and an employee.
  • An employment agreement for an individual employee can be a verbal exchange, written email, or job offer letter.
  • Employment agreements vary and may involve different time commitments and compensation plans.
  • Federal, state, and local laws also impact employment.
