Another ugly offensive outing dooms TCU against No. 22 Texas Tech, 71-57

Despite promising efforts from some of the younger Horned Frogs, TCU wasn’t unable to keep pace with No. 22 Texas Tech in a 71-57 defeat Wednesday in Lubbock.

The Red Raiders were short-handed as standout forward Darrion Williams was ruled out just before tip-off. But even without their third-leading scorer and second-leading rebounder, Texas Tech (16-4, 7-2) had more than enough offense to pull away from TCU (10-10, 3-6) in the second half.

I love Jamie Dixon. Awesome guy. Awesome alum. Definitely a Horned Frog legend for his career as a player and as a coach. That said, you have to wonder if this insane NIL/transfer world of college athletes is just too much for him anymore.
He grew up under Killingworth, who I still think was our greatest basketball coach. Killer was a brilliant strategist and had time to develop his players. He probably would not have fared any better than Dixon if he was trying to coach now.
Not sure what the solution is, but I don't see this program going anywhere, but down from here and I really hate it for everyone associated with TCU.
This may be one of the first tough decisions the new AD has to make in a year or two.

Would a new coach be any better without a big infusion of NIL money?

Im not on the fire Dixon train at all. But I do think he needs to start over with a new staff. He needs a staff with a new perspective on some aspects of the game, and can help him develop talent and make adjustments as the game goes on.

Now, if this season is the new norm, then yeah I think it’s time to assess if Dixon should have a future here. But I’m not ready to have that discussion about a coach that’s led us to 3 straight tourny appearances.

To me, this season is more a reflection on the age and talent. Clearly made multiple bad evaluations on a few players.

To be clear....I'm not on the "fire Dixon train" either. There will have to be some major changes, though, to men's basketball for us to be competitive again. Perhaps it is is more NIL money? Perhaps it is a staff shake-up? I've heard that our assistants are pretty good guys....so not sure about that.

It is troubling to see certain things never seem to change in the performance areas....i.e. free throw percentage, blown leads, long stretches of no scoring. We've had enough good talent in the past to overcome these issues, but this year it seems to have finally caught up.

Not after taking us to three straight NCAA appearances playing what was the best basketball conference. But he missed on this year. Is it a rebuilding year? Yes. I would say Udeh is not what was hoped for and we lack an inside presence on both ends of the floor.

Come on coach.

Making outside shots would be nice as well as a disciplined offense.

This is a strange year with one returning player. Udeh brings little on offense but is a hard working defender. We are forced to play him at the perimeter on defense so he has to hustle back to contend for rebounds. We do need a formidable forward or two to take up the slack. Punch looks like he will eventually get there, just not yet. If it sounds like excuse making, so be it. But three straight years in the tournament means we have a very good coach. On the other hand, consider we have played well on the road and lead the league in road scoring. I would suggest that is the result of a half empty Schollmeier. We have the worst fans in the conference.

Surprising stat because we seem to struggle to score 60 points. Honestly, even if I lived 2 miles from TCU instead of more 200, I wouldn’t pay to see our ugly basketball. I can barely watch on tv. Sorry.

Exactly. Our average basketball fan is waiting to have an excuse to be attracted to games. That includes Fort Worth based season ticket holders, especially in the courtside seats.

We're going to have to do something about ticket prices if you want the average fan to show up. I was going to try and go to the Kansas game but prices on gofrogs were stupid. $162 for 200 level seats, 2nd to last row. Gofrogs, not stubhub or seatgeek.
