TCU is 7-0 and once again ranked in the top five. It’s become a usual formula for the Horned Frogs under Gary Patterson – a dominant defense coupled with an efficient offense, a recipe for blowing opponents out and then moving on to the next game.

After allowing 21 in their season opener to Oregon State back on Sept. 4, the Frogs have allowed 20 points just once more and that came in a 41-24 win over a much improved SMU team on Sept. 24. Over their last three games, they have allowed a total of three points and those were to BYU last Saturday.

The TCU defense had back-to-back shutouts of Wyoming and Colorado State heading into the game with the Cougars. For the year, the Frogs allow just over nine points a game and around 218 yards of total offense (90 rush, 128 pass). Once again, TCU has also been fundamentally sound as they are +6 in turnover margin, always a good way to win games.

Despite losing two key contributors from last year’s defense to the NFL in Jerry Hughes and Daryl Washington, this year’s D hasn’t missed a beat. Sophomore LB Tanner Brock has stepped up and become TCU’s leading tackler and a true force on that side of the ball. All told, the Frogs have forced six fumbles and had five interceptions. ...
