Is Seals ready to go as a 1 if needed, or still needing lots of development?

We can't afford another year of bad passing decisions and off targets. Sonny really can't afford it.

None of our QB’s look ready to go. I’m expecting more RB action, short passes, and option plays. We are trying to make it easier on the QB as we have no one impressive right now.

What’s incredible is that we appear to have 6 extremely capable runningbacks right now. Cook obviously the leader, but Sanders and Battle have looked strong, newcomer Johnson is a tank, and the two freshman look outstanding.
Pick Six Previews has the TCU running back room as number 14 in the Big XII. I assume that is because they are largely unknown versus the talent level.

Hoover is the clear #1 right now. But he has a ways to go to get where they were expecting him to be. That’s not to say he’s been awful, just still making a few freshman mistakes and kicking off some post-surgery rust.

I don’t quite have your level of confidence, but am very hopeful.
I have faith in Cook/Johnson, & somewhat in Palmer.
I’m hoping Sanders and Battle can contribute more than they have in the past.
They have had some pretty good commentary, but I won’t necessarily believe it until they actually prove it.
Payne should be great, but I don’t think he’s ready @ 180 lbs.

Last season, we waited too long to allow Hoover to run with the ball IMO. I believe we could have possibly beaten Texas and maybe gotten another win had he been encouraged to tuck it and go with some keepers/options. He's no speedster but he did get into the end zone on a keeper late in the season.

I think a completely immobile quarterback for TCU spells a few losses each season as it limits what the opponents' defenses have to prepare for and defend.

Unless the o-line gels, running may more about survival for our QBs and less of an ‘option’

This^ I said that all season last year. It was like he was going to be punished if he ran past the los. There were times he had wide open field, would run, get to the los and just pull up and then frantically look around for someone to throw to. The seat neighbors around me and I would talk about it all the time. Then, can't remember what game it was, towards the end of the year, he started taking off and it worked wonders. Its like Briles said, "what the hell, what have we got to lose? Go ahead and run."

We didn’t wait too long, we basically didn’t do it all. At least not planned.
If Hoover had gotten hurt last year on a RPO, Grant Tisdale would’ve been our QB and we would’ve been a laughingstock. Tisdale has completed 1 college D1 pass since 2019.
Hoover will definitely run this year with 3 capable QBs. You’re right, he’s not fast with a 40 time in the 4.8s, but that’s fast enough with an open field to run.

This review provides serious concern over an already struggling O-Line. This could be a season of struggles for the offense. Loosing Bennett may be too much to overcome.

There is no reason to save anyone for anything or worry about getting anyone hurt anymore. Empty the tank every year. Play your best players, and use em up. Next year will be an entirely different team, nobody knows who will want to stick around. Rinse and repeat.
