Behind the scenes of TCU RB Emani Bailey’s Big 12 pro day experience, NFL draft preparation
Story by Calvin Watkins, The Dallas Morning NewsFRISCO — The blue Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat left Fort Worth on Wednesday morning.
Emani Bailey says he drove the 70-mph speed limit from his apartment to the Omni hotel connected to the Ford Center at The Star. It would be understandable if he sped up a little considering what’s at stake.
Bailey, a running back from TCU, was headed to his final test, an opportunity to showcase his skills in front of the NFL talent evaluators who will decide his future.
This week, the Big 12 is hosting the conference’s first pro day featuring 137 NFL draft prospects. Bailey, who rushed for 1,209 yards with eight touchdowns in 2023, is one of several running backs hoping to be drafted or signed as an undrafted free agent.
For any prospect, being drafted by an NFL team can be life-changing, as draftees receive a multi-year contract in a sport where the average career lasts less than four years.
Bailey can’t worry about that now. He is hoping to improve his stock as he didn’t perform to his liking at the NFL Scouting Combine in early March, running 4.61 in the 40-yard dash, the 17th-fastest time at his position. He couldn’t do the bench press because of a sore AC joint in his right shoulder.
