Dixon had a bad night

I hope that this works out like the Fiesta Bowl. Happy to be here and played poorly. That lead to a great offseason and a year of playing with a chip firmly on our shoulder. Lead to a Rose Bowl win. Hope it translated to a Sweet 16 or Elite 8 in 19

Second time I've heard from a TCU fan that Dixon got out coached.

Foolish and uninformed fans.

Watch the pre-game press conference.

Dixon knew how to beat that zone.

Missed open field goals and free throws cost TCU the game.as usual.

Great two year run.
Or, how about Syracuse just played damn good defense? Geez (others, not froglaw), don't take away anything from them. Sometimes, that how tournament go.

Or it could end up like TCU's last two NCAA appearances and be another 20 or 11 years until it plays in another tournament game. I don't think that will happen but I'm certain people thought TCU would be back to the tournament quickly after the 1998 appearance.

Next year will be Dixon's first year with all his recruits.

No Doubt he arrived with some good players from Trent but this time he gets to use recruits to fit his system.

Yep, could be the image of what will be coming in the future. We already know he wants a more physical ball club and a better defense. Significant paint presence on defense is a top priority and guards/forwards that can penetrate on offense with less reliance on the 3 bombs. Got to hire a good recruiter to replace Patrick.

Yes and we will probably see a change not only in offense but defense and look for more of this in the future:

http://www.espn.com/mens-college-ba...evils-mimic-syracuse-orange-2-3-zone-sweet-16

zone, specifically the zone syracuse runs is not new as they have run it for decades under boeheim. everything they do in the program from recruiting players to teaching defense is centered on that zone. doesn't matter if things don't go well in practice for weeks leading up to the season or a team with shooters gets hot and starts raining 3' they are not going to divert from that zone.

one big reason that made the transition work at duke is k and boeheim have worked for over 10 years at usa basketball and are very good friends. duke wasn't simply a matter of k making the choice without i am sure extensive conversations with boeheim over this past decade about the zone, how he teaches it, what he looks to accomplish with it. etc..

articles like that are lazy in that they put a spotlight on what appears to be success of a scheme and fail to address the coaches understanding the scheme, teaching the scheme, etc...duke had similar physical traits to syracuse in regards to a bigger, slower back court and a long front court.

We faced that type of zone 1 time this year. The NCAA tournament is all about match-ups. TCU could've theoretically won the entire tournament without facing it a single time if we were different seed or if Arizona State wins the play-in.

Since SYR was a play-in team we only had 2 days to prep, almost everyone else had 5+ days to prepare for their first tournament game.

When Jamie's Panthers played SYR in conference they kicked their butt (15-6). If someone wanted to emulate that zone in conference he'd devote the time to making sure we beat it.

Interesting note, ASu's two lowest point totals on the season were against the same zone scheme, SU of course and Washington with their new coach, a Boeheim protege.

part of the point totals is the manner in which they play on the defensive and offensive ends of the floor.

syracuse at one time was pretty open on the offensive end, but they really grind it out now and try to minimize the number of possessions each team has during a game. similar to uva in that respect and when they are allowed to play their style you are not going to see many points in the game

And Washington had no scorers this year.
