Daily Oklahoman: Sooners' defensive coordinator Mike Stoops 'shocked' TCU went for two

For those wonder why people pointing out using the momentum in OT and why that does not work for going for 2...Simple.

A. We have not been good at short yardage in the back half of this season.
B. The star playmakers were out.
C. It is a low percentage outcome to begin with.

TCU's defense was playing very strong at that point and had OU on their heels. Better to give your team the best chance to win. With that situation, it means going to overtime. Patterson's rule that you go for it on the road when the opponent has not timeouts is a rule that does not take the situation in to mind. There would have been seconds left. So the timeout is not really an issue.

People bagging on Mike Stoops should consider one thing. His defense beat us when they needed to.

I'm shocked Mike Stoops is still employed.
Sitting in the press box last night, we could hear a loud stomping noise whenever  OU was on defense.  We were told that Mike Stoops stomping his feet when he gets mad.

Sometime in the 3rd quarter this object came flying out of the window and hit the glass roof of the boxes below us.  Of course there were stomps along with it.  Guess Stoops got made at his defense and threw something out the window

We messed up! Not for going for the 2. But for not being prepared to go for the 2, from the staff & huddle if we scored. Even with the VERY short sub time allowed, OU would have panicked if we scored...ran back & lined up....... ready to snap when the official allowed us to proceed. They would have been a mess. We took too much time subbing & making the kids aware we were going for two.

I was also hoping we would run the same play that we ran at WV to make our last touchdown, in double overtime (Back in 2012). Always something to learn at this game.
