LOS ANGELES — Got your New Year's resolutions ready? I've got mine.

This year, even before the annual health and diet deals, I have a special vow. I resolve to watch the offensive line.

No. 4 Wisconsin's offensive line, that is. In the Rose Bowl against No.  3 TCU today.

Admit it. Except for a dear old friend, legendary Tribune sportswriter Bill Jauss, who remained true to his Northwestern lineman roots, football watchers tend to focus on the quarterback, the running back, the receivers. The guys with the ball. Not ''the big uglies,'' as broadcaster Keith Jackson used to call them.

We know the offensive line is where it all starts. But the ivy is where it all starts at Wrigley Field, too. That doesn't mean we sit there and watch it grow.
