Butler has to be the favorite to win it all next year

3. Butler: No chance Brad Stevens bolts. Don't think Gordon Hayward leaves, either. Matt Howard will be back. So too will Shelvin Mack, Shawn Vanzant, Zach Hahn and Andrew Smith. Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski picked the Bulldogs to be the favorites next season. Hard to see them fading. If there is another team that will be more driven than Butler next season, I don't see it.

I just realized they left off Ronald Nored. He is only a sophomore.

Surely you must be joking? Butler had a helluva run don't get me wrong. But they were also the beneficiaries of the perfect storm in a watered-down field of 65.

Remember that badazz Kentucky team everyone was talking about? If Wall doesn't jet for the league they're loaded with Sophomores and Juniors coming back. They're the favorites if no roster losses.

Butler works much better as an underestimated underdog. I'm not saying they can't duplicate a great run. But they'll not be the favorites.

Problem. Wall IS jetting for the association.

Duke also has a real nice guard coming in.

Bulter was #11 to start this season. They have had several decent tourney runs. No reason to think they won't be top 5 preseason.

Mich. St. will be another team to watch.

Five UK players, including Wall, declare for draft

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski picked the Bulldogs to be the favorites next season.

I agree with Coach K

Kentucky and North Carolina will be the final two teams standing next season. TCU will make it to the Sweet Sixteen.

Well that's a sunshiney view. I'd like to think your correct. I'd like to...

Ok, so UK is obviously not the way to go, but I still can't see Butler as a favorite. Please don't get me wrong here, I was cheering hard for Butler. Syracuse, Kansas, Michigan State, Duke, Texas, UNC- all will be loaded next year and when the NCAA resets to start the season one of them or a similar crew will look better in the regular season.

Of course, that's the beauty of the way they finish it in Basketball. Even if a handful of teams "should" win, it's the team that plays best who can take it home. Butler's at least proven that capacity. I know what my problem is - I can't see a team as a championship favorite when one of their star players has a junior high 'stache.

Surely you must be joking. Butler avoided the 1st round 5 vs 12 upset against a good UTEP team. Took down #1 seed Syracuse, a very good #2 seed Kansas St., and took #1 seed Duke to the final shot with a chance to win the game. They return as much as anybody from a team that was preseason #10 last year.

Dont follow much basketball, eh????

Follow plenty of basketball, just not religiously eh? I've got a life.

This was still the weakest field in a good while. Have any smartarse comments about that? Do you see those Syracuse, K-State and Duke teams that you mentioned being considered underdogs vs. this Butler squad in the grand scheme of things next year due to one tournament upset?

Butler's good. That's not being debated. But they will not be the favorites to start next year. Period.

1 upset?

Butler beat them and will be better, not worse next year. UK will be worse. K-state probably will. Haven't heard who si staying at Duke.

Where do you think Butler will be ranked pre-season?

If Boise is going to be ranked 3 to start, why couldn't Butler?

One upset over each of those teams vis a vis their respective rankings to start next year, sorry to be unclear. They'll likely start top 10. But #1 or favorites? No, sorry, don't think so. Just MHO so I don't give a flip what others say anyways.

I don't think they'll be #1. I'd be pretty surprised if they weren't in the top 5. But again, Mich State and others will be pretty salty next year.

Just because there wasn't one or two behemoths that were so much better than everyone else doesn't mean it was a weak field.

Did you ever consider the possibility that the 3s and lower were just so much stronger this year rather than the 1s and 2s being so much weaker?

It wasn't some magical run for Butler in 2010. It was a team that was poorly seeded by the committee - should have been a 3 - that knocked out a poorly seeded #12, a #13, a solid #1, the strongest #2, and nearly knocked off another #1 in the finals. Now, they get that same team back for 2011....

Butler will be in the Final 4 in Houston again next year.

Parity is, by nature, a combination of both unless they're an abundance or shortage of incoming quality over a period of time. This year's NCAA was so spread out in its talent that it made for a more even field - also described as weak. Maybe "more even" is a fairer description.

I'd love to see Butler in the Final 4 again. It'd give me a dog in the hunt since I hate the Dukes and Kansases of the world. I believe you when you say that. But again, like this year, they won't be the favorites.

I think they will definitely be "a" favorite, if perhaps not the favorite. The beauty of basketball is that the rankings aren't what's really important, its the seeding for the tournament. Butler went something like 29-4 in the regular season, had a 25 game win streak, and got a 5 seed. If they do that next year, they will get a 1 or 2 seed. Once you get a seed like that, you have a great chance of advancing deep. Add in their experience from this year, and yeah, they will be one of the favorites, along with Duke and Michigan State.
