APNewsBreak: Document outlines Mizzou SEC options

Missouri is exploring a move to the Southeastern Conference in hopes of getting as much as $12 million each year in additional TV and cable revenue, according to a confidential document obtained by The Associated Press.

The 45-page document, which was reviewed by Missouri's governing board of curators on Oct. 4, outlines the pros and cons of leaving the Big 12 Conference for the SEC. It was obtained from a university official familiar with the discussions who is not authorized to speak publicly.

Among other things, the report outlines the possible contours of broad conference realignment .......

My issue is that if there is a 6 yr agreement on tiered rights. Then how can Missouri's plan to give the B12 two year notice work. Seems like we have a Standoff here.

Just wondering if the SEC does not offer Missouri membership for 2012, does the Big 12 require Mizzen to sign over their tier one and two rights to stay in the league. After reading that article it sounds like an SEC invite for Missouri is at least one to two years away if at all. Does the Big 12 allow them to stay without signing over these rights?

Mizzu really has some issues with control over their business confidentiality.

Missouri hasn't signed anything yet.
My question is what happens if Missouri says they want to stay, but refuses to assign the rights? Does the Big 12 kick them out? What is the mechanism for enforcement? Could this be Missouri's play to leave without paying exit fee?

Well. First this is a contract that has to be memorialized. That being said, there is no consent implied by conduct. So Mizzou is really forcing the hand of the B12. What the B12 could do is withhold contractual share for fmv share of participation. Whether or not that inludes BCS level of pay is not guaranteed. What you can throw out is equal revenue sharing because that is part of the new conference agreement with 6 yr grant of market rights.
