WASHINGTON – Nine of the 11 members of an NCAA panel that will help decide the Fiesta Bowl's fate attended a bowl-sponsored retreat that included free meals, resort rooms and golf outings.

The nine names all showed up on a 2008 "Fiesta Frolic" attendee list obtained by Playoff PAC in a public records request. The group provided the list to The Associated Press.

The NCAA Postseason Bowl Licensing Subcommittee is scheduled to meet with Fiesta Bowl officials this week in New Orleans, but won't make a decision on whether to revoke the bowl's license until later this spring. The Fiesta Bowl, played at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., is one of four bowls that rotate hosting the Bowl Championship Series national title game.

"This is a jury of the bowl's former freeloaders," charged Bryson Morgan, co-founder of Playoff PAC, which advocates switching to a playoff system to determine a national college football champion. Morgan questioned how a decision by the panel members can be considered credible given their attendance at the Fiesta Frolic.

bowls are corrupt no doubt.

playoff won't fix anything though, unless you have a field of 64 because that's how many invites it will take for people to not whine about getting picked. Conference differences, human votes, still flawed.

Glad the people like this and tressel, etc. etc are getting exposed.

The only people whining would be the folks whose teams are ranked below 64 and everyone would be laughing at them. I think 16 is the right number.

Here are the members of the subcommittee:

Barry Alvarez, University of Wisconsin
Mike Bohn, University of Colorado
Thomas Bowen, San Jose State University
Nick Carparelli Jr., Big East Conference, chair
David Cutcliffe, Duke University
Robert DeCarolis, Oregon State University
Richard Gianinni, University of Southern Mississippi
Dave Heeke, Central Michigan University
Paul Krebs, University of New Mexico
Chris Massaro, Middle Tennessee State University
Mark Womack, Southeastern Conference

All in all, that's a pretty good cross section in terms of not being heavy with BCS shills. The question is "how many of them went on cruises or to strip clubs on the Fiesta Bowl's dime?"

Since primarily state colleges like UConn are required to buy Fiesta bowl tickets. And since UConn didn't sell their allotment, Connecticut tax payers financed the Fiesta bowl. The Fiesta takes this tax payer financed stipend, and uses it to bribe its own oversight committee. Nice scam.

I did not read the whole article but one thing I found interesting is the location of the meeting. New Orleans? Sounds like even the oversight committee is being wined and dined.

New Orleans is the perfect symbolic location. No history of corruption in that city.
:eek:hmy:

How much work really gets done in a place like that? Hopefully, none, from that crooked group.

Love New Orleans, though - great place for the Froggies to play a bowl game next year! That's right, we will be there.
