It is a thunderstorm; these are all about lightening but how close does lightening have to strike to cause a delay? 10 miles seems way too far.

It is because of "safety." Of course, 10 miles is ridiculous. But, because we will use "an abundance of caution" and "better safe than sorry" as the rule rather than the extreme, you get crap like this.

Yeah, the 55 minute rule only would have applied if our game went past 7:05. However, there is another storm popping up on radar. May delay their start due to lightning depending on how fast it clears out.

edit to add - that is off of 4 different pitchers.
