TCU offense reverts to old ways in loss to Kansas State

By JEREMY CLARK

TCU’s offense took a step back on Saturday with Kansas State limiting the Frogs to 342 yards of offense, which was 136 less yards than what the Frogs were averaging coming into the game.

To make matters worse, Kansas State entered the game with the league’s ninth-best defense, surrendering a whopping 492 yards per game.

The Frogs had showed promise in the first two games of the season getting 34 and 33 points against two good teams in Iowa State and Texas. Head coach Gary Patterson said multiple reasons led to the offensive disaster on Saturday.

“You can’t go backwards. Number one penalties, number two you can’t take sacks. We have to be able to run the football,” he said. “It’s a pretty simple formula. For us, we’ve got to be able to run the football.”

Senior OL, Austin Meyer, unwittingly indicted the OL coaches in his after game comments when he said,
“I feel like we are on different pages. We need to get back to the drawing board, figure out the issues, tweak it, come back next week better.”

“That just comes from within. We got to come out as a unit, be prepared, be ready. That all comes with preparation.”

Anyone who has done any teaching knows that it is up to the teacher/coach to keep everyone on the same page. It is up to the teacher/coach to keep everyone focused on the same thing...”on the same page”. It is up to the teacher to ensure that the students are prepared to carry out their assignments. It is up the teacher to tweak whatever is needed to keep the class on course.
Knowing it or not, Austin is calling out this teachers/OL coaches to do their jobs.
The OL is still too slow, but with the proper teaching, they can be better than how they are performing now.

You can't go back to the drawing board and fix something that the OL coach doesn't either understand or translate to start with. The head man himself said that you have to run the ball. So, use your strength (rb) and RUN THE DAMN BALL. Mix in some misdirection and let the passing game come to you until you can figure out a way to pass block. Not telling the coaches anything they don't already know, but for whatever reason(s) are not patient enough to execute.

Go Frogs!
