Oh, did Steel ruffle your feathers? Stupid? Struck a nerve down there in your nether regions? You walking vagina?
Look here, the point Steel was making is simply this: In Steel's job, Steel is expected to kick butt daily. And is paid to do such. Steel kicks butt, and he's expected to get up the next day and kick butt again. And is paid to do such. And when he doesn't kick butt, there's the real possibility of no longer being paid. That's the Real World, Dummy. Built in motivation.
Sports is not the Real World. It's a made up world. It's a bit of a joke, frankly. We "fans"--sideline sitters (or standers if they're REALLY fanatical)--think we're cool when our team loses, and feel lower than a dog's balls when they lose. But there's this--we don't control ANY of it. NONE of it. AND YET, we still expect--DEMAND--a level of performance out of oaches leading unpaid kids that we don't expect of ourselves, or even aspire to. We sit and obsess over every statistic, every game, spend oodles of money to go to the games...and the kids who are performing for us get, what, WHAT? Not a dadgum thing, that's what! Concussions, torn knees, broken fingers, and on and on...Not money, damn little glory. Why do they do this?
Because of LHCGP. Heck, the Sad Sack Cowboys are highly paid and they don't play with a fraction of the motivation that LHCGP can motivate unpaid kids to play with.
The point is this--YOU ALL THINK YOU APPRECIATE WHAT LHCGP HAS DONE, BUT YOU DON'T HAVE A CLUE, MOST OF YOU. Least of all you, Dummy. LHCGP knows that success is a habit and can be gone when your habits grow flaccid. So, Yes, he yells at people. He isn't Nice sometimes. So what? He wins, he wins the right way, he graduates people. He is committed to excellence, in a way that You, Stupid, cannot understand. Winning is not a Some Time Thing, it's an All the Time Thing.
We're all destined to be recycled through the alimentary canal of a worm in the end, sooner or later, so why not tilt at windmills on kf.c and at "the Carter" during our slow (although quick in geological terms) and inevitable slog toward the Pit.
