THE BIG EAST, finally pushed into a corner by continued defections, may now be willing to listen to the most dramatic and aggressive conference realignment deal yet.
Conference USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky and Mountain West Commissioner Craig Thompson are pushing an idea that would create a true Conference USA - a 28-team conglomerate that would stretch from Hartford to Honolulu.
The Big 12's poaching of West Virginia and/or Louisville will pretty much eliminate any leverage for the Big East, now down to five teams after the losses of TCU, West Virginia and/or Louisville, Pitt and Syracuse. ...
