TCU signee Gracie McGovern wasn't one of 3 who advanced to the U.S. Women's Open out of a Scottsdale qualifier filled with pros, but she flirted with it. The score to make a playoff was -3, and Gracie was -2 with 9 holes to play in the afternoon round. Back-to-back doubles ended her dream, but she still finished T19 and was low-am by 5 shots. https://www.golfgenius.com/pages/4476118

A quick shout-out to former Frog Caitlyn Macnab, co-medalist at the Bermuda Run regional with a 12-under 204. Caitlyn was 5 shots down with 9 holes to play and shot a 32 on her final nine to share the individual honor and lead her team to a one-shot win. Wish she could have done all of that as a Frog.

Perhaps my least-favorite finished-last-in-fantasy-football penalty. Can we go back to "Careful: Student Driver" bumper stickers?

Interesting footnote on the Austin regional: Tommy Morrison from UT is leading right now. His mom was just convicted of embezzling $70,000 from Maridoe Golf Club. The money was used for golf lessons, equipment and tournament travel expenses for her two sons (among other things). It looks like she even paid for one of her sons to play in the Pro-Am at the Torrey Pines PGA Tour event.

Frimodt is T6 going into the final round of the Austin Regional. He's -4, three shots back of the individual leader, after a pair of 69s that could not have been more different.

On day 1, in the final pairing, he had a roller-coaster round with only 8 pars. He got to -3 early, then was iced by a long weather delay and made back-to-back bogeys on the restart. He fought back to -4 before closing with a double on the hardest hole as sunlight faded.

In round 2 he opened with back-to-back birdies, then ran off 16 pars in a row. Clean card.

To make nationals, he'll need to be the top finisher among players on teams that don't advance. Right now, that would be individual leader Michael Brennan of Wake, whose team is 2 shots off the cut line. If Wake comes back to advance, Gustav could find himself in a battle with former teammate Jacob Skov Olesen, who is also -4 for eighth-place Arkansas.

Frimodt didn't have his best today and won't make it as an individual. Hopefully, he will retain enough points in the PGA Tour University rankings for a spot on the Korn Ferry Tour, but may be pushed to the PGA Tour Americas, which plays all over South America, Mexico and Canada.

OU, UT, OSU, Tech and WVU all advance to NCAA. BYU loses out in a playoff, and UH and Kansas both came up short. Newcomers to B12 Arizona and Utah advance, Arizona State does not.

SMU and aTm advance, too. Ugh.

TCU signee Gracie McGovern just missed out on a USGA championship this week, losing in the championship match of the U.S. Women's Amateur Fourball at Oak Hills CC in San Antonio. The match turned on a misunderstanding of a putt concession. Gracie missed a birdie putt to win the 7th hole, and with her opponents having left the green, she picked up, her partner having already done so. Her opponents then appealed and were awarded the hole. Tough lesson.

Important lesson to learn but it’s amazing how much chickenshit stuff like this happens in women’s amateur golf and of course it was a parent who acted like a loser

So, there's something called the National Golf Invitational--I guess it's like an NIT for college golf. It's being held at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes outside Phoenix, and through two rounds, TCU leads Washington State by a shot. Jack Beauchamp, Andrew Petruzzelli and Toby Wilt are all in the top 10.

What's really amazing is that the Frogs are only playing 4 guys, while others are playing 5-count-4.

Edit: Frogs finish second as a team and Jack Beauchamp finished third individually in Arizona.

Reading the article, down in the quotes, it looks like she did get a hole-in-one during the tourney, so she at least took that positive.
