It is a fan article. It did raise an interesting question but then neglected to answer it which is: Why doesn't TCU rank as high as UT and A&M and other Big State Us in the recruiting rankings despite being very competitive? If he had considered that question, he might have come up with some things like: 1. Recruiting rankings are skewed towards Big State Us because they are a business that caters to the larger subscriber bases of Big State Us. In other words, the Big State Us will always see their recruits get higher rankings in comparison regardless of actual talent. So this means TCU's actual team recruit rankings will always be a few spots lower than they should be each year. 2. Some recruits simply want to play at larger stadiums and go to big schools. TCU as a small private school does not offer this. 3. The Big State Us have shown a willingness to shall we say provide extra incentives far more often than little ole TCU to get recruits. Naturally, this means TCU will lose out on some recruits now and again. 4. The article mentions that TCU is more willing to coach up or project players. This is less common with the move to the Big12 but still highlights a difference between how the Big State Us recruit and TCU recruits. 5. The article ignores that OU had shifted its recruiting focus to more nationally rather than targeting the State of Texas and they have managed to do quite well. This example alone calls into question the premise that recruiting in the State of Texas is the best method of success. Or to put it another way, why is OU a superior program to UT and A&M if in state recruiting is so important?
