San Diego Union-Tribune: TCU leaves Mountain West with Poinsettia win

It figured that Texas Christian University would drive away from the Mountain West Conference in style, and the Horned Frogs did just that with a drive for the ages and a pass play they’ll tote proudly to their new home in the Big 12.

Before a crowd of 24,607, the worst turnout in the Poinsettia Bowl’s seven-year history, 16th-ranked TCU outlasted the stubborn Louisiana Tech Bulldogs 31-24. They won on the strength of Casey Pachall’s passing arm and the speedy legs of a former conference track star, Skye Dawson, whose 42-yard touchdown catch with 4:26 to play gave TCU the winning score and earned him the game’s Most Valuable Player trophy.

TCU, 11-2, takes an eight-game winning streak into their new home in the Big 12. Louisiana Tech finished at 8-5, but leaves San Diego knowing it was in a bowl game that was their’s for the taking. ...
