They ask for more than 5 things if you read the demands, many of which are gimmes like covid safety precautions and whatnot. We obviously disagree on how much leverage is had by the players. In the next year we’re certainly gonna find out some answers. I’ll be watching the developments and hopefully some on field product as well.
have read the demands and they are basically asking for things involving covid, racial matters, protecting programs, splitting profits, and the insurance.
this is being pushed by the group out of ucla and the question because what are the truly willing to do to enact change and that comes down to whether or not they are willing to accept potentially the end of the college system as they know it to get the things they are asking because you won't get those things under the current system.
one thing i am interested in watching is whether those who are supposedly backing this are really willing to pay the price to get the change.
mentioned to a friend that one big reason john lewis and others from the 60's were able to create an environment of change was they were willing to accept the costs of their actions. not just in protesting or getting arrested. they knew they were going to get beat, have hoses turned on them, dogs turned loose only armed with a bible and their sunday clothes.
so what are these players willing to give up? what price are they truly willing to pay and is the group that is pushing unionization willing to run the risk they may destroy the system that funds how many scholarships for individuals who would never get to school otherwise?
