PORTLAND, Ore. — A speeding citation issued to Oregon cornerback Cliff Harris has touched off an investigation by the school to determine whether NCAA rules were violated when a school employee allowed football players to use her rental car.

Harris, 20, was cited early Sunday morning after police said they clocked him driving at 118 mph on a suspended license in the rental.

It gets worse! She states players paid her for the use of car. In her latest statement she said she didn't pay for the car?????

However, Schmidling’s assertion that she was paid by the players for the use of the car could protect their ability to play for the Ducks, though it may still be considered a minor violation of NCAA rules.

There is already an ongoing NCAA investigation at Oregon, and the employee who let him borrow the car doesn't even work for the athletic dept.

Is it August yet??

Surely there is. There always is.

From what's been reported so far, it doesn't sound like it. It appears to be, if anything, just an isolated secondary infraction, if that. Every institution, including our own TCU, commits these every year. It doesn't necessarily mean there is something sinister going on. If that were the case, all 300+ DI institutions would be under investigation, if not suspicion.

The only reason I feel there may be something wrong here is she keeps changing her story. So for arguments sake let's say she didn't lease the car so who did. If it's found someone is leasing it for the benefit of the players then yes it's a big one. Where there is smoke there is fire but may be the smoke was just coming off the tires of the car! Then maybe not!
