For those of you among us who even have the slightest interest in hip-hop, I'd like to mention this Saturday's 817 Showcase at the Cellar, across Berry from Fuzzy's. Fort Worth is actually home to an interesting and growing hip-hop scene.

Of particular note to folks on kfc may be that there will be several acts that include current and former TCU students. S.E.L.F. Crew, JQuest, A-Roy and DruBShinin in particular. Also may be a couple of board members onstage, you never know ;)

Music starts at 9:30 with S.E.L.F., no cover. So come see how Horned Frogs wreck a mic!

I second this suggestion. Fort Worth does have a great up-and-coming hip-hop scene which is being anchored by some eloquent TCU-connected folks. If you like hip-hop at all, do yourself a favor and check some of these guys out.

Here is a Fort Worth Weekly piece about TCU grad Dru B Shinin':

Sounds interesting. Do any of those artists have a page where you can listen to their music?

A-Roy: http://a-roy.bandcamp.com/

Dru B Shinin': http://drubshinin.bandcamp.com/album/dirty-money-painting
Video for "The Promise": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3jXUJXKMYA

J.Quest: http://jdotquest.bandcamp.com/

A producer who goes by EyeJay is responsible for most of the music on Dru and A-Roy's albums. He is amazing at what he does. Read about him here: http://www.fwweekly.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=4393:irv-jones-beats&catid=38:music&Itemid=399

I was at TCU from '60-64. Went to the High Hat, now the Celler, plus the original Celler downtown, maybe a couple of times. Saw the Manchurian Candidate the fall before JFK got his head blown off in Dallas. As I look back there some very interesting things going on in Ft.Worth. A frat bro. picketted the old TCU theater so they would integrate. Maybe I am full of nostalgia, but it was a special time, full of anticipation, foreboding and joy. Does make me kinda of sad to look back, though.

The stories I've heard about the original Cellar downtown, makes me want a Delorean Time Machine so that I can experience it. I could go and "chill" with George Carlin.
