GoFrogs: TCU Takes Down Cyclones

FORT WORTH – The TCU women's tennis team closed out the weekend 2-0 after taking down the Iowa State Cyclones 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Horned Frogs move to 10-5 overall and 6-2 in Big 12 play. This is the first time since 2015 the Frogs have won six Big 12 matches.

LEE'S THOUGHTS
"Really proud of the maturity and composure our players had today," said head coach Lee Taylor Walker. "Iowa State fought hard with a lot of passion and tried to make a momentum push towards the middle end. There were some moments our players could've gotten distracted and lost focus, but I thought all our players kept their poise and played well down the stretch. There was a moment where we had three to four intense match situations going on simultaneously."

"It is in those moments when I'm reminded of how beneficial it is to have an excellent staff with Coach Patrick and Coach Courtney. It was great to watch them handle their courts in such a professional way and encourage our players toward the finish line. Tough road trip ahead for us this week. But I believe in our staff and players more than ever and we are up for the challenge."

THE RUNDOWN
The Horned Frogs earned the doubles point for the seventh time in a row on the purple courts. Chiho Mushika and Yu-Chin Tsai were first to finish earning their fifth conference win as a pair. Destinee Martins and Helena Narmont followed suit claiming their fourth win as a pair in Big 12 play.

Raquel Caballero kicked off singles action with a 6-2, 6-2 win on court five. This was the freshman's first win on the court in conference play. Tsai claimed the third point of the day from court four in straight sets. Pascual clinched the match for the Horned Frogs from court two earning her sixth win of conference play.

Martins battled through a marathon of a match on court two to earn her second win of the season on the court. The senior won 7-5 in the first set before falling 5-7 in set two. She claimed the victory after a 6-2 tiebreak set. Narmont wrapped up the day with a straight set win on court six 6-2, 7-6(7-4).
