GoFrogs: Women Fall in Fourth Quarter at Oklahoma

Box Score | Box Score | Notes

NORMAN, Okla. -- The TCU women's basketball team led entering the fourth quarter, but couldn't hold on to the lead as Oklahoma won, 84-71, at the Lloyd Noble Center on Thursday night.

TCU (9-5, 0-3) was up by three points entering the fourth quarter, but Oklahoma (7-7, 2-1) started the period on a 12-0 run and the Frogs couldn't find the answers as the program's first win in Norman slipped through their grasps.

Amy Okonkwo led the Frogs with 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting , giving her seven straight games with at least 15 points. Toree Thompson, playing in her home state, added 17 points while Jordan Moore had 12 points, eight rebounds and a career-high four assists.

Maddie Manning led Oklahoma with 22 points, including four 3-pointers. Shaina Pellington added 20 points for the Sooners.

Defining Moments
Okonkwo tipped in a blocked shot at the third-quarter buzzer that gave TCU momentum and a 3-point lead, 59-56. The momentum was short lived, however, as Oklahoma needed just 30 seconds into the fourth quarter to retake the lead.

The Sooners would go on to a 12-0 run as the Frogs went scoreless for nearly the first five minutes of the final period. Oklahoma led, 68-59, with 5:20 to go when Thompson finally put the Frogs on the board with her third 3-pointer.

The Frogs, however, would not get closer than six points as Oklahoma continued to play well offensively in the final quarter.

Overall in the fourth quarter, the Sooners outscored the Frogs, 28-12, while making 12-of-16 shots. The Frogs would make just 4-of-17 in the period.

Stat of the Game
2 -- The Frogs made two buzzer beaters in the game, hitting shots to close the second and third quarters. Adeola Akomolafe made her first career 3-pointer to close the second quarter. Okonkwo was in position to rebound Kianna Ray's shot that was blocked to end the third quarter and tipped it in before the horn sounded.

Quote of the Game
"I think we did a lot of good things in the first three quarters. But, sometimes when we have quarters like the third where we're able to score a lot (27 points), we forget that it's defense that wins these games, it's not the offense. We start getting greedy and just want to play offense, and you've got to be locked in and committed on that defensive end." -- Raegan Pebley
