FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 33 TCU women’s tennis team used its opening home weekend in Big 12 Conference action to score a 4-1 victory over No. 36 Oklahoma on Friday night at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth.
The Horned Frogs (10-6, 2-2 Big 12) opened the match by going up multiple breaks on all three doubles courts against the Sooners (10-5, 0-3 Big 12). Seda Aranktein and Alexis Pereira paired up for the first time this spring for a 6-2 win on court two before Donika Bashota and Caroline Wegner broke the Oklahoma pair at the top position for the 6-3 victory and secure the doubles point for TCU.
The momentum continued into singles as the Frogs scored the first set victories on four of the courts. Sofiko Kadzhaya put point No. 2 on the board as the senior finished off Malene Stripp, 6-3, 6-0. Bashota followed to put TCU up 3-0 in the match as the junior was able to dominate Serena Nash in the second set with a 6-4, 6-0 win. Oklahoma picked up the win on court five for its lone point of the match before Aleksandra Zenovka clinched the victory by breaking Julie Byrne for the 7-5, 6-3 win on court two.
