Last Meeting vs. UTSA: 2010, TCU Win (83-59)

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU, who is receiving votes in the preseason ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, will play UTSA Monday night at 6:00 p.m. CT, as the Horned Frogs host the Roadrunners in their home-opener at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.

Fresh off a 80-63 setback to nationally ranked Georgia, the Frogs will look to bounce back against a UT San Antonio program that the Frogs have only faced three other times in their history. Overall, the Frogs are 12-0 in home openers under head coach Jeff Mittie.

The Opponent
UTSA will look for its first win of the season Monday night, following a 70-50 setback at the hands of Missouri last Friday in its season opener. Freshmen Mannasha Bell and Kamra King led the Roadrunners with 10 points apiece against the Tigers.

UTSA returns a pair of starters and eight letterwinners from last year's squad that went 16-15 overall and 11-5 in the Southland Conference. The Roadrunners were recently picked by the league's head coaches to win the Southland Conference's West Division.

The Series
When TCU takes on UTSA Monday night it will mark the fourth meeting between the two Texas schools. The Horned Frogs currently own a 3-0 lead in the series and will be taking on the Roadrunners for only the third time at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. In their last meeting, TCU scored a 83-59 decision over UT San Antonio last season. Three different Frogs scored in double figures, while Emily Carter scored a game-high 22 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field.

Overall, the Frogs have outscored UT San Antonio by a combined score of 234-177 in their previous three meetings.

TCU Dominate At Home
TCU is 63-7 (.900) in its last 70 games overall held at the DMC and 160-32 (.833) since Jeff Mittie's arrival on campus prior to the 1999-2000 campaign. Thompson Has Career Night
Senior Antoinette Thompson has not been called upon to shoot during her four-year career in Fort Worth, but that all changed against Georgia. The lone senior on the squad had a dazzling performance and a career-night, setting new career-highs in points (23), field goals (9), field goal attempts (14), three-pointers (4) and three-pointers attempted (6).

Several New Faces Grace The Court
In total, six different players saw their first career action in a Horned Frog uniform against Georgia, which included Ashley Colbert, Logan Mittie, Jazz Parker, Chelsea Prince, Natalie Ventress and Whitney Williams.

Bombing Away From Deep
TCU and Georgia combined to make 24 three-pointers this past Friday. The Horned Frogs, who only trailed by nine with 5 minutes left to go in the contest, nailed 11 triples, including seven in the first half. When it was all said and done, the Frogs hoisted the seventh-most three-point attempts (29) in a single-game in school history, while ripping the nets for the sixth-most triples made (11) in a single-game.

Last Time Out
Senior Antoinette Thompson tried everything she could to help a young TCU squad pull off an upset over No. 12 Georgia, but the Horned Frogs came up short, falling at Stegeman Coliseum, 83-60.

In a game that was closer then the final score indicated, TCU and Georgia combined to make 24 three-pointers in front of 5,247 spectators.

TCU's feisty bunch couldn't overcome a late game barrage of three's by Georgia, who came into last Friday's game ranked in the top-15 in both national polls.

Thompson scored a career and game-high 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the floor. The senior, who's previous career high was 10 points, was ultra successful from deep, going 4-of-6 from behind the line, which are both career-highs. Freshman Natalie Ventress had a solid first outing in a Horned Frog uniform, scoring 16 points to go along with five rebounds. Fellow freshman Chelsea Prince was just as solid on the glass, cleaning up 12 boards, while Latricia Lovings recorded a career and game-high four blocks.

Crawford Out For The Year
TCU received news before the season-opener against Georgia that junior forward Starr Crawford was ruled out for the 2011-12 season due to injury. Crawford, who earned preseason all-conference accolades, was a second team all-conference selection in 2010-11. She was the top returning rebounder in the league at 9.7 per game, ranking 36th in the nation and recorded eight double-doubles as a sophomore.

The Arlington native was the only player to average double-digits in points (12.7) and rebounds (10.0) per game last season in the Mountain West and was TCU's leading scorer returning after averaging 12.0 ppg.

Tough Schedule Once Again
The Horned Frogs will play one of the top schedules in the country with games against seven opponents who reached a postseason tournament a year ago, including five who made the NCAA Tournament. The Purple and White should be tested early and often with a schedule featuring three squads, Georgia, Oklahoma and Texas A&M, who made it to the third round of the NCAAs, with the Aggies eventually claiming the National Championship.

Highlighting the Frogs' 2011-12 slate is a group of nine home games, including a pair of showcase contests against NC State (Nov. 20) and Texas A&M (Dec. 11). Even more challenging than TCU's home lineup will be an away schedule featuring four squads that reached the 2011 NCAA Tournament.

One of the contests will be played at the annual UCF Thanksgiving Classic in Orlando, Fla., Nov. 25-26. The Frogs begin the tournament Nov. 25 with a matchup against NCAA qualifier Hartford, the American East Tournament Champion.

In addition to the challenging UCF Thanksgiving field, the Frogs open their season at Georgia on Friday, Nov. 11. The Lady Bulldogs, who are coming off a 21-10 season, made the third round of the NCAA Tournament a year ago before eventually falling to national champion, Texas A&M.

Horned Frogs Picked To Win MWC
TCU was tabbed as the preseason favorite after finishing second in the Mountain West last season and earning an at-large bid to the Women's National Invitational Tournament. The Horned Frogs received 12 first-place votes and 136 total points.

San Diego State collected seven first-place votes and was picked to finish second with 127 points, while third-place Colorado State garnered the remaining first-place vote and 106 points. New Mexico (74 points) placed fourth, followed by UNLV and Wyoming in a tie for fifth (65 points each), Air Force in seventh (42 points) and newcomer Boise State in eighth (39 points).

Colorado State senior Kim Mestdagh was named 2011-12 MW Preseason Player of the Year. Mestdagh, a 5-10 guard/forward, is the only senior in the league returning from the all-Mountain West team. Mestdagh averaged 17.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game and hit her 1,000th career point last season as a junior. She is joined on the preseason all-MW team by Air Force junior Dymond James, New Mexico junior Sara Halasz, junior Starr Crawford and UNLV senior Jamie Smith.

Home Sweet Home At The DMC
TCU saw a 27-game home winning streak come to an end last season. The streak ranked as the longest in the MWC and was No. 3 in the nation at the time. The previous school record of 19 straight home wins was set between Jan. 18, 2006 and Feb. 22, 2007.

TCU is 63-7 (.900) in its last 70 games overall held at the DMC and 160-32 (.833) since Jeff Mittie's arrival on campus prior to the 1999-2000 campaign.

In terms of attendance, TCU experienced one of the top seasons in program history a year ago with an average of 2,781 fans attending home games. The number, which ranked third in the Mountain West, was the fourth-best in program history.

Headlines To Look At
During the Jeff Mittie era, the Frogs are 218-29 when leading at the half. TCU, who went 18-2 last season when leading at the half, is also 126-3 when leading by 10+ at the half.

Overall, when the Frogs score 80+ points in regulation, TCU is 77-1 under Mittie. The Frogs are also 166-10 when the opponent scores 60 or less, which happened 21 times last season.

Up Next
TCU will head to cross-town rival SMU on Thursday, Nov. 17. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. CT in Dallas.
