GoFrogs: TCU Completes Sweep Of K-State, 12-4

MANHATTAN, Kan. – A pair of big innings helped No. 3 TCU cruise to a 12-4 victory over Kansas State Sunday afternoon. The sweep of the Wildcats pushed TCU’s winning streak to eight games.

The Rundown
TCU broke the game open in the top of the third and never looked back en route to the win. Connor Wanhanen was hit by a pitch to get the parade to the plate started. After he stole second, Austen Wade put the Frogs on top with a base hit up the middle. With the bases loaded, Luken Baker singled home two more runs for a 3-0 lead. RBIs from Josh Watson, Nolan Brown and Ryan Merrill followed to push the lead to six.

Kansas State finally got on the board in the series with a one-out, two-run home run off the bat of Hanz Harker in the fourth to pull within four, 6-2.

The Horned Frogs got the two runs back plus some with a five spot in the next half inning. Merrill doubled home his second run of the game and Cam Warner lined a grand slam off the scoreboard in right field for an 11-2 lead. TCU’s final run came courtesy of an Evan Skoug sacrifice fly in the seventh.

The Wildcats avoided the mercy rule with another two runs in the seventh, but that’s as close as they would get. Call Coughlin and Austin Boyles pitched scoreless innings to end the game.

Brian Howard (4-2) started and went six innings, allowing two runs on four hits. He walked two and struck out five.
