GoFrogs: SVB Claims Bayou Beach Bash Crown
MONROE, La. — The TCU beach volleyball team captured the Bayou Beach Bash championship Saturday with a 4-1 win over Central Arkansas and a 4-1 win over host ULM.
The Horned Frogs (13-7), winners of five straight matches, beat Houston Baptist and Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Friday’s first day.
“We are on a pretty good roll,” TCU beach coach Hector Gutierrez said. “We are a little tired, but that’s part of the game. The girls are handling it really well.”
In the last eight days, the Horned Frogs have played a total of 10 matches in three states, and four have been against ranked teams. Seven matches have been on the road.
TCU heads back to the road Friday and Saturday for the Florida State Tournament in Tallahassee, and the field includes Georgia State, Florida International, host Florida State, Florida Atlantic and South Carolina.
“Everyone is really concentrating and everyone is ready to play,” Gutierrez said. “That is one of the good things about our team.”
Jaelyn Greene and Amy Neal extended their match winning streak to seven consecutive matches with a pair of victories. Shane Peters and Jillian Bergeson also teamed up to win two as did Sarita Mikals and Ariah Palter.
Avery Arellano, playing with Haven Hill against Central Arkansas and with Jordan Terral against ULM, notched two wins, while the team of Claire Doyle and Bridget Odmark went 1-1 on the day by beating Central Arkansas in three sets before falling to ULM in three.
Arellano and Hill also needed three sets to slide by UCA.
