TCU Falls Short In 2-1 Loss To Baylor

FORT WORTH – TCU attempted to rally from a two goal deficit late in the game but came up a goal and a crossbar short of completing the comeback in a 2-1 loss to Baylor Sunday afternoon at Garvey-Rosenthal. Grace Collins converted a penalty kick for the Horned Frogs' lone tally.

The Rundown
Baylor struck for a goal in each half, building a 2-0 lead 50 minutes into the game. The first goal was a deflected shot that bounced over the line in the 14th minute. Goal No. 2 was a strike from distance in the 50thminute.

TCU turned on the pressure in the final 20 minutes of the game as it attempted the comeback. Payton Crews had a fantastic look in transition in the 74th minute, but a diving snag by Baylor's Jennifer Wandt kept the Frogs off the board.

TCU continued to pile on the pressure and eventually earned a penalty kick as Baylor was called for a handball inside the six-yard box in the 84th minute. Grace Collins converted the kick to make it a 2-1 contest.

The Frogs had multiple looks at getting the equalizer but none better than Camryn Lancaster's blast with just under a minute to go in the contest. The shot from distance bounced straight down off the crossbar and narrowly missed going over the goal line and Baylor held on for the win.

Quotes of the Game
Head Coach Eric Bell
On the game:

"We weren't able to find one more goal than them. We weren't dangerous enough in the final third, especially in the first half. We were much better in the second half. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter about this and that. You've got to stop them from scoring goals and we have to score one more goal than them. You've got to win the game."

On goal scoring:
"They have a really good goalkeeper. I think as I look at the last two games, we weren't dangerous enough. We didn't create enough goal-scoring opportunities. We did, but we didn't hit the target. We didn't make the goalkeeper make saves. You look at the stats and you have all these shots, and that's great, but at the end of the day you have to make her make a save or get it on frame so it goes in."

Man, the goal we scored with like 3 minutes left the ref didn't see. Crossbar, down in goal and out. No goal. Bummer. Should have gone in to OT.
