FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU used a 21-3 run midway through the second half Sunday to down Sam Houston State at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum, 60-49.

After trailing by eight at the break, the Horned Frogs, now 5-5 on the year, switched to a 2-3 zone 4 minutes into the second half Sunday and simply suffocated the Bearkats to the tune of 22 turnovers, including 13 during the second half alone. In all, the Frogs held SHSU without a bucket from the field for over 10 minutes of play in the final frame.

The Purple and White forced Sam Houston State into only five made field goals in the second half, which marks the fourth time this season the Frogs have held an opponent to five or less field goals in a single-half. In all, the Bearkats went 5-of-30 from the floor for 16.7 percent in the second half and by doing so posted only 18 second half points, which sits inside the top-10 for fewest second half points allowed in a single-game.

Freshman Natalie Ventress came off the bench Sunday to score 14 points, while sophomore Briesha Wynn, who made her second start of the season, scored 10 points. Senior Antoinette Thompson just missed her first career double-double Sunday, finding the bottom of the net for nine points, while grabbing a team and career-high 11 boards, including nine on the defensive end of the court.

In all, TCU out-rebounded SHSU, 46-44, while tallying a 22-14 advantage inside the paint. The Frogs also once again outscored the opposition off the bench, recording a 26-10 decision on Sunday.

SHSU (3-4) was led on the day by Chanice Smith and Sequeena Thomas, who combined to score 20 of Sam Houston State's 49 points. Thomas also pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds in the contest.

Wynn put the Frogs on the board on the opening possession of the second half when Thompson found her for a cutting layup to bring the score to 31-27. All-in-all, the Frogs opened the half scoring the first four points, but SHSU continued to answer until Thompson found Prince who scored on a jumper outside the lane at the 15:55 mark of the second half.

Thompson would score a floater in the lane and the Frogs were in business now only down 35-31. Sophomore Latricia Lovings then came up with a monster block on the defensive end of the court and TCU held SHSU without a bucket for over 7 minutes of play. A couple of minutes later, Delisa Gross cut the Bearkat lead to 35-33, knocking down a jumper from just inside the lane.

After some back-and-fourth play, Wynn stole the rock and drove coast-to-coast for a jumper and the Frogs pulled within two at 38-36 halfway through the second half. Ventress then tied the game at 38-38 the next trip down the court on a running jumper and Wynn would give TCU a two-point lead on back-to-back free throws at the 7:52 mark.

The Frogs would increase their lead the next trip down the court when Whitney Williams found Lovings down low. Ventress then ignited the Frog crowd with a little over 5 minutes remaining in the game, tickling the twine off a cross from Wynn to make the score 45-38. The Bearkats were never able to recover, falling 60-49 in front of 2,933 spectators.

Thompson put the Frogs on the board early, tying the game at 3-3. Ventress then increased the Frog lead to 8-3, connecting on a triple off a pass from Gross at the 16-minute mark of the first half.

With the score knotted at 11-11, the Bearkats jumped on top with a 4-0 run, but the Frogs answered with three-straight points of their own at the line to make the score 16-13. Prince cut it to one at the 7:48 mark off a nice up and under down low, but Sam Houston State scored the next trip down the court.

Meagan Henson brought TCU within one at 18-17 with 4 minutes left to go in the half, but SHSU buried a triple the next trip down the court. Williams then drove through the traffic and connected on a tough lay-up to move the score to 23-21 with 3 minutes, 16 seconds to go in the opening frame.

SHSU would close the half on an 8-2 run to bring the halftime score to 31-23 at intermission.

The Horned Frogs will return to the court on Tuesday, Dec. 20 against Tulsa. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. from the DMC.
