The Horned Frogs defeated the Red Foxes in the opening round of NCAAs.

Final Stats

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The No. 6 TCU men's tennis team remained undefeated at home and opened its postseason run in the NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship with a 4-0 victory over Marist in the first round on Friday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

The Horned Frogs (22-7) got their first victory in the NCAA Tournament since 2006 by taking out the Red Foxes (15-8) with ease and will move into second round action tomorrow by facing No. 30 Tulsa at 2 p.m., on the Bernard J. `Tut' Bartzen Varsity Courts.

"Our guys played well coming out of the gate and a good start at home is always a good plus," head coach David Roditi said. "Marist competed well and fought hard. Will (Stein) and Nick (Chappell) in doubles served and returned very well and Facundo (Lugones) was on a mission and that was fun to watch.

"Conditions were very humid, heavy and it became very physical. Devin Bowen has done a great job getting our guys ready mentally and emotionally. Being able to close out the matches will help us for tomorrow against a very competitive Tulsa team. These two teams have history and we know each other very well, so we could use all the fan support we can get."

TCU opened with doubles action and No. 20 Nick Chappell and Will Stein notched their 21st win of the season by taking down Fredrik Bjerke and Joe Motta, 8-1. Guillermo Nuñez and Hudson Blake sealed the doubles point for the Frogs by notching their first victory at the No. 2 position with an 8-4 win over Matteo Giudici and Justin Chanthalangsy.

Senior leadership propelled TCU into a 3-0 lead into the match, as Facundo Lugones took care of his opponent on court four with a 6-1, 6-0 victory for his 19th win this season. Stein followed up with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Jan Dernic on court six, as Stein recorded his 22nd win of the season.

The clincher would come from freshman and No. 39 Cameron Norrie, as the Auckland, New Zealand native knocked out Bjerke, 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot to seal the first NCAA victory for the Frogs under the Roditi era.

TCU and the Golden Hurricane will battle it out tomorrow afternoon with the winner advancing to compete in the NCAA Championship Team Finals held May 14 through 25 at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas on the campus of Baylor.
