FINAL STATS | NOTES

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - TCU had three players score in double-figures Wednesday night en route to a 71-64 victory over UNLV at the Rebels' Cox Pavilion. Sophomore Starr Crawford led the Horned Frogs with 18 points and 18 boards, which included 11 rebounds on the defensive end of the floor. By grabbing 18 boards, the sophomore not only tied her previous career-high, but also posted her sixth double-double of the season. Her 18 board outing currently ranks No. 6 all-time in program history for a single-game.

Not to be outdone, senior Emily Carter recorded a game-high 23 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-9 from deep.

Fellow senior Helena Sverrisdottir was just as dangerous, going 6-of-6 from the floor, including 5-of-5 from behind the arc, for 17 points. By going perfect from the field, Sverrisdottir became only the seventh player in program history to go at least 6-of-6 from the floor in a single-game. With her five boards Wednesday, the Iceland native moved into No. 3 all-time in career rebounds with 779 for her prestigious career. She has also now posted 118 starts during her four years in Fort Worth, which is tied with former Frog great Sandora Irvin for most career starts in program history.

Overall, TCU did most of its damage inside the paint Wednesday, out-scoring the Lady Rebels, 22-6. In reality, a couple of late three's by UNLV's Kelli Thompson and Erica Helms made this one interesting, but the Frogs were able to knock down their free throws late to post their second-straight victory.

With the win, TCU moved to 16-8 overall and 8-2 in league play, while UNLV dropped to 9-15 overall and 2-8 in the MWC.

Carter was part of a 7-2 run to open the half, drilling a three to make the score 39-25 at the 17:39 mark of the period. A few moments later, Latricia Lovings got into the act on the defensive end of the floor, denying the Rebels a bucket in the corner. Overall, Lovings' block was part of six blocks for the Frogs in the contest.

UNLV cut the TCU lead to 41-32, but senior Micah Garoutte followed up a Crawford miss to push the Horned Frog lead back to 11 with a little over 11 minutes to go. Following a triple by the Rebels' Mia Bell, Carter nailed two-straight treys to give TCU its largest lead up until that point at 49-35 halfway through the second period.

Sverrisdottir then got into the three-point act, drilling a three of her own to give TCU a 54-35 lead at the 7:36 mark. The senior proceeded to catch fire from deep, draining another triple a few moments later off a cross from Crawford.

The Rebels rallied though on back-to-back three's to pull within 14 at 59-45 with a little over 3 minutes to go in the game, but Crawford would have none of it, receiving a pass from Sverrisdottir down low to move TCU's lead back to 13 in the closing minutes.

UNLV closed the game, hitting three three's in the closing minute, but could not complete the comeback as the Frogs held on for a 71-64 decision Wednesday.

Crawford, who scored five of the Horned Frogs first eight points, put the Purple and White on the board early after Sverrisdottir found the sophomore for a tough three-point play inside the lane. The next trip down the court, Carter found the bottom of the net, drilling a triple from deep to make the score 6-3 early in favor of TCU.

With the score knotted at 8-8, Crawford continued her offensive presence, nailing a jumper from the right side of the floor. Sverrisdottir then ignited a 13-2 run midway through the half, drilling a trey from the corner, while Lovings pushed the Horned Frog lead to 18-10 with about 10 minutes to go in the first period.

A mini 10-0 run by the Lady Rebels brought the score to 21-20 at the 5:19 mark of the first half, but Carter would knock down a couple of free throws to halt the Rebel attack. The next trip down the court, Sverrisdottir nailed a deep three from the corner to push the Frog lead back to 26-20.

Late in the half, Antoinette Thompson found Rachel Rentschler in the corner to move TCU's halftime lead back to 10 at 32-22.

The Purple and White will take on Wyoming on Saturday, Feb. 12. Tip-off is set for Noon from the DMC.
