FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU pulled within six midway through the second half Wednesday night, but it wasn't enough as New Mexico snapped the Horned Frogs eight-game winning streak with a 65-54 decision at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.

The Frogs, who are receiving votes in the Associated Press Poll, were led on offense by sophomore Starr Crawford, who posted 16 points, including nine in the second half. Crawford, who recorded a seasonal-high with eight free throws made Wednesday, went 8-of-11 from the charity stripe. Helena Sverrisdottir and Emily Carter were held in check for the majority of the night with nine points apiece, respectively, but both posted seven of their nine points after the halftime break.

TCU, who has only lost two games in a 33-game span at home, couldn't overcome a slow start from the field and tried to rally in the second half, shooting nearly 41 percent from the field in front of 3,407 fans at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. Overall, the Horned Frogs only trailed 25-19 at the break and went 14-of-16 from the charity stripe during the first half of play, which are both seasonal-bests for a first period.

With the loss, the Frogs moved to 14-7 on the year and 6-1 in league play. New Mexico improved to 7-11 with the victory and 1-5 in the MWC.

The two teams opened the second half trading possessions with both Carter and DeLisa Gross finding the bottom of the net, but UNM pushed its lead to 37-24 with 17 minutes to go in the half on back-to-back treys.

A deep three by Sverrisdottir and a bucket by DeLisa Gross brought the score to 41-33. Gross' jumper was part of a 9-4 run for the Frogs at about the 15-minute mark of the half.

Freshman Briesha Wynn's jumper from the foul line brought TCU within six at 45-38. A few moment's later, Wynn came soaring in for an offensive rebound and found Carter wide open for a triple to move back within six at 47-41 with about 10 minutes to go in the contest.

Trailing 55-41, Antoinette Thompson drove the lane and scored a hard-fought lay-up. The next trip down the court, Carter connected on a running floater to bring TCU within 10 at the 5:56 mark of the second period of play.

Rachel Rentschler tried to rally the Horned Frogs late, nailing a triple, but the Frogs couldn't complete the comeback as UNM handed TCU only its first loss in the Mountain West.

The Purple and White opened the game pressuring UNM from the line, connecting on 6-of-8 from the charity stripe early on. Following another trip to the foul line by Crawford, Gross hit the next five points, recording a triple from the right side of the court to tie the game at 9-9 with a little over 12 minutes remaining in the first half.

Wynn tied the game at 11-11 with 8 minutes left in the half and Crawford posted back-to-back steals to help the Frogs go on a 7-0 run halfway through the period. New Mexico continued to battle though, taking a 24-15 advantage with 2 minutes, 14 seconds left to go in the half.

A couple of late free throws by Sverrisdottir brought the halftime score to 25-19 in favor of UNM at the break.

TCU will next be in action at Air Force on Saturday. Start time is set for 3 p.m. CT.
