Johnson Named A Freshman All-American

Johnson has started the last eight games at nose tackle

TCU nose tackle David Johnson has been named a second-team Freshman All-American by Yahoo! Sports.

A native of Argyle, Texas, Johnson has started the last eight games. He has totaled 26 stops while placing sixth on the Horned Frogs with five tackles for loss, including two sacks.

Johnson equaled a season-high with four tackles, including a half sack, in the win at Boise State. He has taken part in a tackle for loss in five of the last six games.

During his 11-season tenure as TCU's head coach, Gary Patterson has now produced 14 Freshman All-Americans.

Johnson's father, David, was a strength and conditioning coach at TCU during the 1990s.

TCU's entire starting defensive line will return next season.

Nice. So, per the last game of the year that D-line was:

Ross Forrest - DE - Sr next year
David Johnson - DT - Soph next year
DJ Yendrey - DT - Sr next year
Stansley Maponga - DE - Jr next year

With lots of our back-up DT's and DE's rotating in to get valuable playing time. Wonder who is in line for the next starting DE spot following Ross Forrest graduation... Koontz, Matt Anderson, Cliff Murphy, Austin Terry, incoming Fields?

Saw this kid in high school for a couple of years and you knew then he was going to special. When we played Argyle, he was all over the field and Celina could not account for him. His motor just runs and runs but he backs up that motor with technique.

Another one of these kids Aggie an-st says is under qualified because he isn't a six starsie.

Predict right now AA this underqualified youngster will play in the NFL one-day. I know that irritates you to no end.

I'd bet on Anderson (assuming he recovers fully) and Fields.

He had one of the most impressive highlight tapes I have seen for a HS DL. Nobody could block him, and he spent all his time in the other teams' backfields.
