GoFrogs: Coles Paces Horned Frogs in 78-51 Win over Tigers
FORT WORTH – Behind a career-high night from Jakobe Coles, who had 21 points, seven rebounds and two blocks, TCU defeated Jackson State, 78-51, Tuesday night at Schollmaier Arena.

The Frogs (7-1) secured the 27-point win without the team's two leading scorers, Emanuel Miller at 12.6 points per game, and Preseason Big 12 Player of the Year Mike Miles Jr. at 18.2 points per game.

TCU had four players with double digit points. Damion Baugh scored 15 points to go with a game-high five assists and six rebounds. Chuck O'Bannon Jr. scored 11 points with the help of three 3-pointers. Shahada Wells had his best game as a Horned Frog with 14 points to go with four assists.

Within the third minute of play, the Frogs retained the lead they held for the remainder of the game and led 39-27 at halftime.

TCU forced 12 turnovers in the first half and 29 in the game. It was the most by a TCU opponent since forcing Austin College into 35 turnovers on Nov. 14, 2011.

The Horned Frogs also held Jackson State (1-7) to 29.8 percent shooting. The lowest by a TCU opponent this season.

TCU continued its great defensive play and closed the game with its largest lead of the night, 27 points.

TCU faces SMU in the Simmons Bank Showdown at Dickies Arena on Saturday at 9 p.m. The game will be shown on ESPN2.

  • The Frogs improved to 4-0 all-time against the Tigers.
  • TCU improved to 76-12 against nonconference teams under head coach Jamie Dixon.
  • TCU shot 40.3 percent from the field and held Jackson State to 29.8 percent shooting. The Frogs improved to 104-23 under Dixon when outshooting their opponent.
  • Jackson State's 29.8 percent shooting from the field, the lowest by a TCU opponent since holding Seton Hall to 28.8 percent last season in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
  • Both teams shot 6-of-23 from 3-point range.
  • TCU's starting lineup consisted of Chuck O'Bannon, Eddie Lampkin, Micah Peavy, Damion Baugh and Shahada Wells. It was TCU's eighth different starting lineup in as many games.
  • All 15 Horned Frogs who were available, entered the game.
  • TCU debuted its alternate grey jersey for the first time.
Individual Notes
  • Jakobe Coles had a career-high 21 points. He tied his previous high of 15 in the first half. Coles had 15 points earlier this season against ULM.
  • Coles shot 7-of-11 from the field and 3-of-6 from three, both career highs for makes.
  • Coles tied a career high with seven rebounds and three blocks.
  • Damion Baugh scored 14 points. He has scored in double figures in both games played this season.
  • Baugh led TCU with five assists. He has led the team in assists in both games he's played this season.
  • Shahada Wells scored a season-high 15 points. It was the most he's scored in two seasons as a Horned Frog.
  • Chuck O'Bannon tied a career-high with two blocks.
  • O'Bannon extended his streak to nine straight games with a 3-pointer dating back to last season against Arizona on March 20.

I think we missed more shots under the basket than from behind the arc. It sure seemed that way, at least.

watched it early this morning and frogs shot ~25% from 3 so perception

trying to understand how peavy could play so well a couple of games back and then shoot 2 of 11 in the game last night, not sure if sick, just one of those nights

wish haggerty would have gotten some more minutes
