Fire Joe Gillespie

Gillespie will be ket go (and rightfully so). Dykes will be forced to use that card to appease the fanbase and make the easy move.

That said if your expecting the next guy to be a major improvement, I suggest you temper expectations.

Below are the point against ranks over Dykes coaching career. He does not prioritize defense, never has, and I don’t think he is capable of making a solid hire on that side of the ball.

Opponents points per game while at La Tech:

2010: 30.7 (90 out if 129)

2011: 23.2 (41 out of 120)

2012: 38.5 (119 out of 124)

Cal

2013: 45.9 (97 out of 125)

2014: 39.8 (128 out of 133)

2015: 30.7 (89 out of 128)

2016: 42.6 (127 out of 128) (Fired)

SMU

2017: 36.7 (118 out of 130)

2018: 35.2 (110 out of 130)

2019: 33.4 (110 out of 130)

2020: 30.9 (75 out of 128)

2021: 28.4 (87 out of 130)

TCU

2022: 29.0 (91 out of 131)

I agree. No self respecting coach would come here to work for Sonny. He might be cool to drink with, but would not want to work for someone who lacks leadership. We are trending downward, quickly.

Lost to CU by 3. Threw 2 picks in the redzone and turned failed to convert 4th down on final drive with a chance to win.

Against WVU offense had 1 yard in the 3rd quarter and no points 2nd half. Did defense lose that game?

We threw 4 interceptions against ISU. How often does the team that throws 4 INTs win?

Gave Tech the ball at our 16 yard line for easy TD. Final drive, had the ball for a chance to tie and go to overtime and threw another INT.

Not to mention our abysmal 61% FG kicking.

Defense gave us a chance to win all of those games and offense/ST didn’t deliver.
Again, it's not an either/or. And if you're coming on here talking about how the defense "gave us a chance" against Tech and of all games against Colorado then I have to question your sanity and/or sincerity.

You are correct. Both sideb of the ball stink. Question is, what are tey going to do about it?

If UT hangs 50 at home then we should fire multiple coordinators.

If the offense doesn’t hit double digits then Briles can join that group..
That does seem like a fair measure.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I don't think Joe is the problem. His schemes do seem like they'd work if he had one more stud on the line and our defenders could tackle. I think the problem last year was an unfamiliarity with the system. I think this year it's something else.

But the one thing I can't explain is the bad angles our guys seem to constantly take, and that seems to rest solidly on his coaching...

Currently our defense is 8th in the Big12 (14 teams) at 385YPG. Scoring defense is tied for 5th at 24.3PPG. If I were SD I would advise Gillespie to rush at least 4 on every play. 3-3-5 is just fine but we should never rush only 3.

After all that you said, I agree…Gillespie sucks…

Was I supposed to type something here?

If he had an ounce, hell, a gram of sense, he'd go full Buddy Ryan on UT and spend the day blitzing all sorts of people from all angles. What's he got to lose? His job?

A win on Saturday cures a great many ills. I simply don't believe that these imbeciles have it in them.

Bend but don't break philosophy means a better scoring defense than a yardage defense. In 2021, we were 5th in yardage and 4th in scoring defense. I think we expected improvement on that side of the ball but we don't get that. It possibly might be that the players that fit the scheme are not ready yet in the player development cycle and that another year is needed to see if the 3-3-5 and the stylistic approach is the best defense for this league.
