It's only a matter of time before Notre Dame joins a conference. The Independent route just puts you in no-man's land now. Notre Dame is only special now because of its history and sooner or later people stop caring all that much about history.

Not as long as they still get their bids...which they will. No real reason for them to join in football until it costs them the playoff.

I wonder how much different college football would be if the old WAC (post SWC breakup) stayed together. It was the first super conference and was the first conference to go to the "pod" system. If the conference had a little more time to figure out the pods, I think the WAC had a chance to become the premier non-BCS conference with a chance to improve.

Would have totally dominated the entire mountain time zone (aside from CU) and would have had the clear second tier of teams in Texas and CA. The WAC could have potentially been saved by not expanding so much when it did. Maybe not adding Rice, Tulsa, UNLV and/or or one other program. It would kept the potential MWC teams from leaving and would have left the conference on solid footing. The creation of the MWC decimated the WAC and neither conference ever truly reached the levels of the old WAC.

Add TCU and Utah back into the conference and it is a really good conference.

Yeah, they really misjudged that deal. Should have stayed in the MWC. SJSU should not be in the MWC. If you have BYU, Boise, SDSU, Colorado State, and AF, you have a pretty good conference in football.
