Remember Eight we signed a guy with a career 31% from deep who most think will have a big impact on the team. I agree that RJ needs to shoot better from distance but he could help us more with better ballhandling and finishing around the rim.
who is the 31% shooter?
simply taking shoots from behind the arc isn't enough to draw the defense out if you aren't a legit threat to score from there and even at the end rj didn't merit much other than a hand up from behind three and the defender giving the shot and taking away the drive from him.
it is akin to the frogs in football lining austin and stewart out wide. neither posed a threat in the vertical passing game so they ended up creating more congestion than posing a threat.
the frogs in basketball struggled at the end because they didn't have consistent threats from 3 aside from bane at the end and you could see the impact in conference play where teams knew the frog. they went 3-9 against conference opponents in the second half of the conference play, the tournament, and the nit final. one common thread in the 3 wins and the 9 losses were how well this team shoot the ball and how well they shoot from behind the arc.
i just don't see how they significantly improve if they continue to have shooters hitting 30-35% from behind the arc.
