Who Replaces Dykes?

Too critical IMO. Sonny got a market raise after making the CFP. It was too much after one year, but it was consistent with what the (stupid) college coach market demanded. Donati did what any AD would’ve done, and probably what the BMDs told him to do. If the deal only goes through 2028, it’s not as bad as I would’ve expected. I doubt his contact is fully guaranteed, but I also bet his pay is more than $7M on average in the remaining years (probably $7.5M+) If true that there’s only 4 years left, I’d bet his buyout is around $20-25M. But there may be assistants with a couple million more in buyouts that would have to be paid, too.

I suspect Sonny gets another year. The economics are just a lot at this moment.
Take the buyout money and put it in an NIL collective.

Waste of money at this point. Whomever is to blame, be it the AD or the BMDs, deserves criticism. Aside from one year, what has been the positive returns on this? Our recruiting doesn’t seem to be any better. Our national profile is arguably the same or even less than it was. Any and possibly all the positive momentum from the NC run seems well and truly washed away.

Criticism is deserved at this point. The rest of this year will show us what we’re truly paying for.

Well one assistant, Andy Avalos, in December 2023, signed a five-year contract worth a total of $7.75 million. I believe this is the same term and amounts he had as head coach at Boise.
KB’s contract only runs thru this year I believe.

“Waste of money” is a theme throughout college football.

Here's a hot take from an old fart:

Dykes is a figurehead. All PR and window dressing.

The OC is running the offense; the DC is running the defense. Ditto for all the other pieces of the football program.

No one seems to be ensuring all the individual parts are working together to achieve success.

And the two former HC analysts don't seem to be doing anything to add value.

That would be well above market in both pay and term. I’m skeptical, but the devil is in the buyout details.

Yeah, the perverse incentives in college athletics that resulted from an insane influx of tens of millions in a short time have driven coach and exec comp through the roof, and the donors (desperate for success and fairly out of touch of what these folks do) just empower, if not demand, it. As an industry, college sports is getting the chaos it deserves.
