TCU Examiner: Horned Frogs pull away late against SMU, retain Iron Skillet

The fourth-ranked TCU Horned Frogs had their hands full against the SMU Mustangs Friday night. At least, this seemed to be the case until the 13:58 mark of the third quarter. Until then, the 35,481 in attendance (as well as a national television audience) had seen a back-and-forth slugfest.

The Mustangs had just taken the lead and stolen momentum after senior TCU quarterback Andy Dalton's second interception of the night, which SMU defensive back Sterling Moore returned all the way back to the Horned Frogs' one. On the following play, SMU signal-caller Kyle Padron connected with Bradley Haynes to put the Mustangs up 17-14. That momentum did not last long.

As he has been known to do, TCU senior wide receiver Jeremy Kerley made what might have been the play of the game by returning the ensuing kickoff 83 yards to the SMU 13. Three plays later, Dalton found senior wide receiver Bart Johnson wide open in the end zone for an 11-yard touchdown pass and the Frogs never looked back from there as they took a 21-14 lead early in the third quarter. ...
