Arbor Day Foundation Certifies TCU as an Outstanding Tree Campus​

For the fifth consecutive year, Texas Christian University has been recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation for its dedication to preserving its diverse species of approximately 3,200 trees.

“We are proud to be recognized as a Tree Campus USA (Higher Education) for the past five years,” said Todd Waldvogel, associate vice chancellor for facilities and campus planning. “It reinforces our commitment to caring for our urban forest and recognizes the significant and positive impact our trees have on the overall attractiveness of our campus.”

The program was launched in 2008 to honor colleges and universities and their leaders for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation. In late 2015, the President of the Arbor Day Foundation personally invited Chancellor Boschini to apply, and we were first approved for 2016.

To obtain this distinction, TCU met the five core standards for an effective campus forest management:

1. Establishment of a campus tree advisory committee
2. Evidence of a campus tree-care plan
3. Verification of the plan’s dedicated annual expenditures
4. Observing Arbor Day
5. Creating a service-learning project aimed at engaging the student body
