AIR FORCE: The Falcons rattled off 30 points in the first half of their season opener on Saturday, eventually capturing a 37-20 win over visiting South Dakota. As has been the case for several years now, the academy took to the ground to attack the competition, generating a whopping 391 yards on 61 attempts, leading to four scores for the hosts. Quarterback Tim Jefferson chimed in with 4-of-9 passing for another 96 yards and a score, but he was sacked once and intercepted two times in the rout. Defensively, the Falcons allowed 368 yards to South Dakota, but along the way also registered three picks. Next up for the Falcons is the Mountain West Conference opener against TCU this Saturday, a matchup that has favored the Horned Frogs in seven of 10 meetings. Last season, the academy suffered a 38-7 loss in the annual conflict. ...

TCU: The longest regular-season win streak came to an end last Friday night in Texas as the Baylor Bears stunned the 14th-ranked TCU Horned Frogs in Waco by an absurd score of 50-48. It wasn't so much that the Bears won by two points, it was more a case of the TCU defense being completely dominated, the unit having been ranked first in the nation the last three seasons and permitting a mere 12.0 ppg in 2010 to pace all 120 Football Bowl Subdivision members. The Frogs, who at one point a season ago held six straight opponents to a touchdown or less, permitted just 156 points altogether through 13 games in 2010. TCU, which had won 25 straight regular-season games heading into this year, scored 25 points in the fourth quarter alone to make things interesting but allowing a staggering 564 yards to Baylor was no way to start the team's last year in the MWC before moving over to the Big East Conference. New quarterback Casey Pachall was thrown into the fire, but for the most part responded positively with 25-of-39 for 251 yards and four TDs, his lone interception coming in the waning moments. This coming weekend the Horned Frogs try to get an early jump on most of the other MWC squads as they clash with the Air Force Falcons on the road. Last season, TCU crushed the academy in a 38-7 final which means the all-time series now favors the Frogs by a count of 7-2-1. ...
